To Meknes & Volubilis
Today’s excursion will take you some thousands years back,
at 9 o’clock we will leave Fes for the Roman ruins of Volubilis in a very comfortable car or bus, depending on how many you are to ensure extreme comfort, through the Saiss plain. There is plenty of monumental arches and Corinthian columns still settling here as well as some olive presses that bear witness the very traditional lifestyle of Romans who occupied the place 3rd century BC.
The powerfull side of those Romans is still reflected in some mansion here where you can witness the Bath of Gallienus, the house of Orpheus and amazing mosaic of the Labors of Hercules, and so many other captivating stuff, that we’ll let you discover by yourself.
Afterward, we leave Volubilis and hit the road to the town of Moulay Idriss, undoubtedly one of the closest Moroccan points to Moroccan people heart, since it
mcontains the tomb of Moulay Idris, the founder of the Idrissid dynasty and the first Islamic city in the Kingdom and in africa.
Pay a visit to the tomb and make a stroll through the labyrinthine alleys of this town before we head to the imperial city of Meknes ( a UNESCO World Heritage Site), first will go see the beautifully designed gateway of Bab Mansour and on to the El Heri-Souani a great granary and stables that date back to Moulay Idriss period.
You will be having a lunch break before leaving Meknes behind and drive back to Fes at 4 o’clock.
